MCE - FIMEM RELEASE

“CHILDREN'S RIGHT TO PEACE”

In a difficult moment in which a terrible pandemic has put health in crisis all over the world, sociability, solidarity, the normal life of millions of people and especially of children, also deprived of the vitality of the school, appears -in this year 2022- even a war in Europe, which is added to those often forgotten or little known internationally, which have been afflicting populations especially in Africa and Asia for several years.

A devastating conflict has also thrown the peoples of Europe into crisis, a “rich and evolved continent”, demonstrating that war and the funereal arms trade have no borders and limits, nor spatial, nor thunderstorms.

We invite teachers from all over the world, in particular those of the Freinet Movements which refer to popular pedagogy, always oriented towards the formation of individuals capable of cooperating and building a society that realizes the values of justice and equality, to be more than ever peacekeepers.

On the occasion of the anniversary of the entry into force of the Convention, the next 20 November, we invite educators and educators to start courses, initiatives, activities aimed at drawing attention to the Right to Peace as a fundamental right for all humanity, primarily for infancy, and as an inalienable good.

We propose that the 20 November 2022 (and/or in the following days) the “International Day of Right to Peace”, either an opportunity to start or already implement, routes and activities aimed at:

– to live experiences that settle the habit of keeping an open mind and available for discussion and to welcome new solutions to problems

– live formative experiences of active citizenship, democratic and planetary by experimenting with solidarity and care for common goods

– experience the school as an active community, open to the area, and able to reflect and intervene on the problems of reality

– become aware of the fact that boys and girls, girls and boys from all over the world are bearers of rights that must be educated to affirm from an early age, especially the Right to Peace.

Respecting the autonomy of each reality, some activities are proposed, achievable in a short time or over a long period

  • Reading books, narratives, documents (ad is. articles of the Constitution, of the Declaration of Human Rights, of the Convention on the Rights of the Child), view of works of art, film, video etc…
  • Reading of passages of different types, also by authors who exalted war as a problem solver
  • Staging of situations in which conflicts are resolved in a non-violent way also using theatrical techniques (role play, theatre-image …)
  • Production of narratives, video, etc… on the topic
